Romance, in general, can be a nice person. She's very outgoing and makes friends easily. People are just, sort of, attracted to her. That's probably because of her personality. romance harlette black was born on a cold wintery day in sheffield, england. she was always a happy, bouncy child. she always wanted to be the center of attention. she was very creative as a little girl, always drawing pictures or singing or dancing. that was the way she was. her mother always encouraged it, yet her father looked down to it. he wanted her to be a focused young girl. not some rebellious child whose head was in the clouds all the time. in his eyes, she needed to come back down to earth. he sent her off to the boarding school her older brother, markus was at, when she was twelve years old. she was pretty content hanging out with her brother’s crowd. he was a lot nicer when their father wasn’t around. but, she noticed that one of her brother’s friends, a boy named rory, always seemed to be watching her. she stayed by markus’ side at all time when this boy was around. sure he was good looking, but something about him intimidated her. scared her. so when he finally asked her out, pinning her in the hallway, she had to say no. he looked angry as he stormed away. later on that night, she was headed downstairs to get some coffee, and he cornered her. he shoved her into a nearby janitor’s closet and raped her. she kept pleading, “no, no! stop!” but he wouldn’t stop. when he was done she ran back to her dorm crying. she couldn’t tell anyone what had happened. she was too scared and too embarrassed. after that, she started to take to herself, and she began to draw and paint to let her feelings out.
after her father finally let her come back home, about a year after markus did, which was around two years after she had been sent there in the first place, romance began to act differently. she was eating less and less often. she was never hungry, as she told her family. she began to wear baggier clothes. she had dark circles under her eyes even though she slept like a baby. she was emotional, even when she wasn’t on her period. she often took things a little harder then she usually would. her best friend, rosalie, began to get worried about her, telling her that she looked sick all the time, and asking if she was okay. romance kept telling her she was fine, she was fine. but she wasn’t. romance thought she was gaining so much weight. she wanted to be thin and pretty, even though she already was. she taped hundreds of pictures on the walls of models she wanted to be like. she didn’t even know the symptoms of anorexia, even though she was a perfect example of an anorexic person. one night, she came home and her best friend was sitting with her parents and her brother in the living room. they all looked at her like they didn’t know who she was, which they might as well not. her parents told her that she was going to be seeing a shrink three times a week, and she would be eating food every night for as long as she lived underneath their roof. markus almost had tears in his eyes as he nodded. rosalie stood up, and said slowly, “were going to help you with your problem, rom. your going to be fine.” that was what triggered it.
